RESEARCH
Popendorf's research centers on Industrial Hygiene, the study of health hazards from chemical and physical agents at work. A general theme of this research is the development of predictive models of physical mechanisms which cause and control exposures of workers to such hazards as organic vapors, hazardous particulate aerosols, agricultural pesticides, and other dermally toxic chemicals in the occupational environment. Recent research has been on the interpretation of exposure patterns in foundries, to coolants in metal machining operations, and to a range of dusts, gases, and noise in family farm settings. Current research is on vapor exposures close to an open source and novel applications of physical principle to model practical problems.
