The public health profession provides opportunities to work with people at the community level and in the workplace, in jobs that promote the general health and welfare of people and their working and living environments. Traditionally, public health has focused on the study and prevention of communicable diseases through nutritional factors, immunization, and environmental sanitation. While these issues are still important, the public health profession has broadened its scope to include all aspects of disease prevention, environmental protection and health promotion.
The public health program at Utah State University is offered through the Department of Biology. Public health students follow a science-based course of study as they work toward a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Health. The Public Health major is popular among pre-health students. Program requirements are compatible with the pre-health track, and students gain a desirable undergraduate degree as they prepare for a related profession.
USU is proud to have one of the oldest BS public health programs in the nation.
