| ADMISSIONS TEST INFORMATION
Most health professions schools (medical, dental, osteopathic, etc.) will require the results of at least one standardized admissions examination. The two most common admissions tests are the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) and the Dental Admissions Test (DAT). These tests should be taken no later than one year before you expect to attend a medical/dental school. Test scores are generally usable for two to three years. Information for other health professions schools may be found by visiting the Biology Advising Office, BNR 101.
There are useful materials for premedical/predental and other professional school preparation on reserve in the Merrill Library. These include study guides for the MCAT and DAT, and books about cultural literacy and strategies for success. The prehealth clubs also have materials available for members to check out in BNR 101. Each spring there are two courses offered to help students prepare for the admissions tests. They are taught for one credit each, pass/fail, by undergraduate instructors. The MCAT Prep Course is called BIOL 1030, ST: MCAT. The DAT Prep Course is called BIOL 1040, ST: DAT.
Remember, it is your responsibility to regularly consult the Utah State University Undergraduate Catalog and the USU Semester Schedule Bulletins to be aware of when courses are taught. Some of the required courses within and outisde of your major department may have prerequisites and be offered only one semester of an academic year. Failure to check this may affect your preparation for the MCAT or DAT as well as meeting USU graduation requirements.
