| AMCAS
AMCAS (American Medical College Application Service) provides a uniform medical school application service. Most medical schools in the United States require students to use the AMCAS for application. There is a fee for this application service. The AMCAS is not a test! The information you provide to AMCAS will serve as the first application to those medical schools requiring the AMCAS.
The web-based AMCAS application material can be found on-line at www.aamc.org/students/amcas/ and is usually available in April. You may (and should) complete and submit your AMCAS materials without your MCAT scores. MCAT will send your scores to AMCAS.
Complete the information required by AMCAS and send it to them at the earliest acceptable date, usually in June. AMCAS will take the information you send them and arrange the information in standard medical school application form. A separate standardized application form is then sent by AMCAS to EACH of the medical schools you have listed on your AMCAS forms (a few medical schools do not use the AMCAS application procedure).
The information requested on the AMCAS application form describes your academic history, personal background, interests, and experiences. You must complete this application form carefully so that you will present yourself in the best possible way. Before mailing your material, you should have others proofread your completed AMCAS application for typographical errors, spelling, grammar, and completeness and clarity of thought. Mail your completed AMCAS form directly to the AMCAS organization.
Pay particular attention to the autobiographical information requested on the AMCAS. The space provided on the AMCAS for autobiographical information is limited.
However, the more complete and personal autobiography that will be requested by the USU Prehealth Professions Evaluation Committee can serve as a framework for writing this.
